Who we Are and How WE Help

Social Service Association of Ridgewood and Vicinity (SSA)
Neighbors Helping Neighbors for over 110 years

Social Service Association of Ridgewood and Vicinity (SSA) is a food security organization. We are the faces behind the Red Door Food Pantry at the Ridgewood Train Station. Since 1913, we’ve been a beacon of hope and help to our neighbors facing hardship, providing a community safety net. SSA's pantry is stocked with basic food essentials which help supplement the nutritional needs of those we serve. We are one of the only self-service food pantries in the area.

DONATING BASIC FOOD ITEMS

What kind of food items does SSA accept?

Supplies of canned goods, boxed cereals, pasta, paper products and other staples are the main focus of the pantry but we have refrigerator and freezer space so fresh food donations are also welcome. Food donations are accepted throughout the year.

What’s the best time to drop off food donations?

Donations are accepted during office hours which can be found on our contact page.

Occasionally we close for meetings so it’s always a good idea to call before dropping off any donations.

If you have a large donation, please contact us ahead of time.
